Poetry - Fragile he Was

I had no idea how fragile he was

Until he cried out in the night

“Beth –
where are you?”

And I answered “I am here”

I had no idea how fragile he was

Until what he had to do seized him

And he couldnt take a step,

Open the door, and talk to the manager

I had no idea how fragile he was

Until I could see he needed morning medication

And two coffees and one hour

To shake the demons from him

I had no idea how fragile he was

Until the cracks in his psyche

Opened wider and swallowed him whole
